Mozilla Releases Firefox 157 With Nova Visual Redesign

The release sets a unified cross-platform design foundation, introduces privacy warnings for TLS key logging, enables hardware AV1 for WebRTC, restores a compact layout

Overview

  • Firefox 157, which Mozilla released on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, is rolling out via the built-in updater in a staged fashion to Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS.
  • The new 'Nova' design standardizes colors, icons and spacing across desktop and mobile and returns an official Compact Mode in Settings that reduces toolbar, tab and menu spacing.
  • A redesigned sidebar with vertical tabs is now the default and users can restore the old sidebar by setting sidebar.revamp to false in about:config until the end of 2027.
  • Firefox now warns in Settings and the page-info shield when TLS key logging (SSLKEYLOGFILE) is active, explaining that locally recorded encryption keys could let other software decrypt HTTPS traffic.
  • The release enables hardware AV1 decoding for WebRTC on supported devices to lower CPU and battery use, fixes HDR and audio–video sync bugs, adds developer features such as at-rule() support and overscroll-behavior: chain, and removes Amazon as a preinstalled search engine.
