Moussa Sylla Denies Abandoning Dog as Düsseldorf Authorities Probe Import and Ownership

The dog remains in emergency shelter custody pending the outcome of an NRW restricted-breed import inquiry.

Overview

  • The American-Bully/American-Staffordshire mix has been under Notobhut at Albert-Schweitzer-Tierheim Essen since August 5, with staff reporting missing rabies vaccination and no original vaccine passport.
  • Ordnungsamt Düsseldorf opened formal proceedings under the Hundeverbringungs- und -einfuhrbeschränkungsgesetz to assess whether Sylla failed to register or import the likely Listenhund lawfully.
  • Sylla’s lawyer, Dylan Bourkab, issued a statement on August 12 stating the dog "never was abandoned" and accusing the sitter of unlawfully withholding the animal and its documents and demanding payment for their return.
  • On August 13, sitter Christine J. rejected extortion claims, detailed her year-long care of the dog, said she received threats after placing it in shelter custody and called for an apology.
  • Both sides continue to contest ownership and compliance facts and Schalke 04 has said it will comment only after the municipal inquiry is complete.
