Mountain Snow and Strong Winds Kick Off a Cooler Week in Southern Colorado

High elevations pick up wet snow, with the plains staying windy and dry until a Thursday rain–snow chance.

Overview

  • Snow showers are ongoing in the mountains today, with additional 1–2 inches in central and southern ranges and 4–8 inches possible in northern ranges as winds strengthen on the eastern slopes.
  • Westerly gusts of 30–45 mph are expected across parts of the I-25 corridor and adjacent plains, with peaks up to about 60 mph over higher terrain.
  • A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the San Juan Mountains, Grand and Battlement Mesas, and the Flat Tops Wilderness, where wet snow totals up to 8 inches are forecast.
  • Southeast Colorado stays dry through Wednesday as highs ease into the 50s and low 60s before a cooler push late week.
  • Another storm is forecast to bring mountain snow Thursday and a chance of rain and snow in the Pikes Peak Region, with snow levels starting near 8,000 feet and lowering toward 6,500–7,000 feet by Thursday night.
