Overview

• A security camera on Orchid Street recorded the mountain lion prowling a Fairfield neighborhood around 2 a.m. on May 26.
• Fairfield Police notified local animal control and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to assess and manage the situation.
• Residents were instructed to secure outdoor pets and refrain from chasing, photographing or otherwise antagonizing the wild cat.
• Officials said the animal will most likely return to nearby hills after its brief foray into residential areas.
• The public was asked to report only sightings that indicate the mountain lion poses an immediate safety threat.
