Mountain Lion Killed After 11-Year-Old Girl Bitten Outside Malibu Home

Officials have collected DNA from the animal with matching tests planned for the victim to confirm the mountain lion’s role

Overview

  • On Aug. 10 at around 5:40 p.m., the girl was feeding backyard chickens when a mountain lion bit her arm in Malibu
  • Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel treated her wounds on scene before her parents took her to a hospital where she is expected to recover
  • California Department of Fish and Wildlife officers tracked down and euthanized the lion within an hour after the attack
  • The state wildlife agency has assumed control of the investigation into the incident
