Overview
- United beat Rosenborg 5-0 in Trondheim on Friday, with Andrey Santos making his second pre-season appearance and lining up alongside Mason Mount in midfield.
- Mount said Santos 'reads the game very well' and described him as a more defensive presence that allows Mount to push further forward.
- The manager briefly handed Mount the captain's armband in the second half and Mount said he enjoyed the leadership role and mentoring the club's younger players.
- Santos joined from Chelsea in a reported £48m deal plus £2m in add-ons as United's first summer signing, a move that helps fill the gap left by Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte's long-term knee problem.
- United will use upcoming friendlies against Atletico Madrid, PSG, Leeds and AC Milan to finalise midfield choices and to assess whether further signings are needed.
