Overview

  • Mount Prospect officers provided automatic license plate reader information to the Johnson County, Texas, sheriff’s office in an abortion-related search, contravening Illinois’ post-Roe data-sharing restrictions.
  • The department also executed more than 260 license plate queries tied to individuals’ immigration status during the first months of 2025, exceeding limits set by state law.
  • Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias confirmed the violations and directed Flock Safety to cut off access for 46 out-of-state agencies as of June 11 for noncompliance.
  • The upcoming audit will review every Illinois police department’s use of license plate reader data to ensure they comply with the law barring cross-border investigations into reproductive care or immigration.
  • Mount Prospect faces the potential loss of state grant funding under the vehicle code if further breaches emerge during the compliance review.
