Eleven bodies recovered, with 12 climbers still missing amid ongoing volcanic activity.

  • Mount Marapi in Indonesia erupted for the second day, halting the search for 12 missing climbers.
  • 11 bodies of climbers have been recovered so far, with the search operation set to resume once conditions improve.
  • Marapi has been at the third highest of four alert levels since 2011, indicating above-normal volcanic activity and prohibiting climbers and villagers within 3 kilometers of the peak.
  • About 75 climbers had started their way up the mountain on Saturday and became stranded. Eight of those rescued were rushed to hospitals with burns.
  • Marapi has been active since a January eruption that caused no casualties. It is among more than 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia.
