Mount Marapi Eruption Continues, Search for Missing Climbers Halted

Eleven bodies recovered, with 12 climbers still missing amid ongoing volcanic activity.

Mount Marapi in Indonesia erupted for the second day, halting the search for 12 missing climbers.
11 bodies of climbers have been recovered so far, with the search operation set to resume once conditions improve.
Marapi has been at the third highest of four alert levels since 2011, indicating above-normal volcanic activity and prohibiting climbers and villagers within 3 kilometers of the peak.
About 75 climbers had started their way up the mountain on Saturday and became stranded. Eight of those rescued were rushed to hospitals with burns.
Marapi has been active since a January eruption that caused no casualties. It is among more than 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia.
