  • At 11:05 a.m. local time on July 7, the volcano erupted, sending an ash column to 18 km above its summit.
  • Pyroclastic flows of hot gas, rock and lava descended as far as 5 km down the volcano’s slopes.
  • Local authorities reported no immediate casualties or structural damage from the blast.
  • Ngurah Rai International Airport cancelled at least 24 flights to and from Bali and dozens more were delayed due to the ash cloud.
  • Indonesia’s Volcanology Agency has kept the alert at Level IV with a 7 km exclusion zone and warned communities to prepare for possible lahar floods.
