MoU With Nepal Consulate Clears Ramp Work for Kolkata Metro Purple Line

Diplomatic clearance followed court disposals to enable the swap.

Overview

  • Rail Vikas Nigam Limited and the Consulate General of Nepal signed a land-exchange MoU on November 17 to unblock a key segment of the Joka–Park Street corridor.
  • The agreement swaps 409.53 sq. m of Nepal mission land for 526.34 sq. m of adjoining Metro Railway land to enable the Mominpur–Khidderpore ramp.
  • The ramp is required for tunneling on the proposed Mominpur–Esplanade underground section of the Purple Line, project officials said.
  • The MoU was executed at RVNL’s Model Room at the Victoria station site by Consul General Jhakka Prasad Acharya alongside senior Metro, RVNL and MEA representatives.
  • The deal follows negotiations held from 2022 to 2025 across Kathmandu, New Delhi and Kolkata, after tenant and shop-owner cases were disposed of and possession was taken.
