Motorway Disruption Across England as M25 Fire and M6 Closure Cause Heavy Delays

Delays persist despite staged lane reopenings as crews clear a vehicle fire near Heathrow.

Overview

  • National Highways reports delays of up to 90 minutes and roughly nine miles of queues on the M25 clockwise between J16 (M40) and J17 after a crash led to a vehicle fire, with lane three reopened and lane four still shut for clean-up.
  • The M6 southbound is closed between J11 and J10 following a serious collision involving a lorry and a motorcycle, with West Midlands Ambulance Service deploying a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic and diversions in place; the M54 eastbound is also shut at J1 due to the location.
  • On the M62, an earlier three‑vehicle crash between J24 and J25 on Sunday was cleared but left long residual delays, and fresh incidents this morning held eastbound traffic between J21 and J22 and closed a westbound lane between J24 and J23.
  • On the M5 Avonmouth Bridge, an overturned vehicle on Sunday reduced the southbound carriageway to one open lane during recovery, with about 50‑minute delays and five miles of congestion reported, while a separate southbound entry slip at J12 remains closed today.
  • Police, fire crews, paramedics and Highways Officers are on scene across the network, with National Highways and Inrix issuing live updates and urging drivers to allow extra time, including those heading to Heathrow.
