Overview
- The collision occurred around 8.15pm on Sunday at the Truro Drive junction with the A689 in Hartlepool.
- The motorbike rider sustained a serious head injury and remains in critical condition at James Cook University Hospital.
- Two pillion passengers were also taken to hospital with injuries assessed as not life-threatening, and the Audi driver was not seriously hurt.
- Police cordoned the area and crash investigators examined the scene as the road stayed closed for about five to five and a half hours, reopening shortly before 2am Monday.
- North East Ambulance Service sent two double-crewed ambulances and a specialist paramedic, with support from the Great North Air Ambulance response car.
