Motorcycle Rider Killed, Athlete Injured in Collision During Ironman Triathlon

A 70-year-old motorcycle rider carrying a camera operator died after colliding with a 26-year-old triathlete during the Ironman European Championship in Hamburg, Germany.
The triathlete suffered severe injuries and the 50-year-old camera operator was treated for shock in the hospital.
The crash occurred on a narrow part of the cycling course where riders and motorcycles were traveling in opposite directions.
The race was briefly halted but resumed after the crash though organizers closed the section of the course where the collision happened.
The overall winner of the Ironman European Championship was Denis Chevrot of France with a finish time of 7 hours 26 minutes 21 seconds.
