MotoGP Confirms 2026 Preseason Tests in Malaysia and Thailand

Next season marks the final year of 1000cc machinery with Michelin ahead of 2027 changes.

Overview

  • The preseason schedule begins with a Sepang shakedown on January 29–31, followed by an official IRTA test on February 3–5, a season launch in Kuala Lumpur on February 6–7, and a final IRTA test at Buriram on February 21–22.
  • The 2026 season opens with the Thai Grand Prix at Buriram from February 27 to March 1, launching a 22-round calendar.
  • Shakedown attendance is limited to test riders, rookies, and concession manufacturers’ riders, which currently includes Yamaha and Honda, with the Sepang IRTA test open to all teams and riders.
  • 2026 is the last season for 1000cc bikes and for Michelin as sole tyre supplier, with a move to 850cc machinery and Pirelli tyres confirmed for 2027.
  • MotoMatters reports that Honda could shift concessions category depending on final 2025 points and notes the ThailandCambodia border dispute as a potential logistical risk, though no schedule changes are in place.
