Overview

  • Milano’s Polizia Locale arrested the 33-year-old mother of two boys involved in the Aug. 11 Gratosoglio collision, and she was taken to San Vittore to serve a 3-year-10-month cumulative sentence for thefts committed between 2017 and 2019.
  • Police say the arrest is legally separate from the fatal crash of Cecilia De Astis, and the woman was also reported for receiving stolen goods after being found with over 130 grams of gold and more than €1,500 in cash.
  • Investigators report the Citroën DS4 used in the collision was stolen after the children allegedly took tourists’ luggage and found a spare key, returning later to drive away the car.
  • The juvenile court ordered emergency placements in community facilities, imposed a travel ban, and appointed a special curator, with a parents’ appearance set for Aug. 27.
  • Three of the four children aged 11 to 13 have been located and placed in communities, while one remains sought by investigators, and the 13-year-old driver who briefly fled a facility was found and returned.
