Taylor's son shot his first-grade teacher, Abigail Zwerner, with Taylor's 9mm handgun, which he found in her purse.
Taylor was previously sentenced to 21 months in federal prison for using marijuana while owning a gun, making her total sentence nearly four years.
Zwerner, who was critically injured in the shooting, is suing Newport News Public Schools for $40 million, alleging administrators ignored multiple warnings the boy had a gun.
