Mother Found Guilty of Killing Son Sentenced to Indefinite Hospital Order

Papaipit Linse, suffering from paranoid schizophrenia, admitted to manslaughter of her seven-year-old son on grounds of diminished responsibility.

Papaipit Linse, 43, was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order after admitting to the manslaughter of her son, Louis Linse, at their home in Haverfordwest, Wales, in January 2024.
The court heard that Linse was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia at the time of the incident, with three psychiatrists agreeing her mental illness was the sole cause of her actions.
Linse, originally from Thailand, had shown signs of mental decline, including paranoia and belief in conspiracy theories, in the days leading up to the tragedy.
Despite a babysitter raising concerns to social services the day before the incident, no immediate intervention occurred before Louis's death.
Judge Paul Thomas KC emphasized that Linse was not a wicked person but a loving mother overcome by severe mental illness, with her release to be determined by mental health professionals.
