Mother and Newborn Stable After Birth in Recife Baby Store

Overview

• A 28-year-old at 38 weeks’ gestation delivered her fifth child inside Amarelinha Baby & Kids in central Recife around 9:20 a.m. Thursday.
• Security cameras recorded staff helping the mother lie down and assist with a rapid delivery that the store owner said lasted about a minute and a half.
• Samu responders cut the umbilical cord and transported mother and baby to Maternidade Professor Barros Lima, where both are reported well.
• The newborn, named João Pedro, was born full-term as the mother reported feeling her first contraction only after entering the store.
• According to O Globo, hospital discharge is expected Saturday, and the store says it will donate a complete layette to the family.
