The tire, which had come off a vehicle in an oncoming lane, bounced over the median and crashed through the windshield, causing most of the damage on the passenger side of the car.
Neither the mother nor the daughter were seriously injured, although they later sought treatment for minor injuries at Mease Countryside Hospital.
The police have not released any details about the vehicle that lost the tire.
