Overview

  • Around 11 a.m. on June 20 aboard a southbound M train, a man demanded to use a woman’s cellphone and sprayed an unknown substance at her and her 11-month-old daughter as the train neared Court Square–23rd Street station.
  • Both mother and infant were hospitalized in stable condition at Mount Sinai Hospital following the attack.
  • Some witnesses described the suspect as slim and wearing a black sweatshirt before he fled the scene.
  • Transit crime in the 108th Precinct has risen about 36 percent compared to the same period last year, with assaults up 18 percent year-to-date.
  • Authorities are still investigating the nature of the substance and searching for the assailant.
