Mostra de València Sets Revamped 40th Edition for Oct. 23–Nov. 2

New director Sara Mansanet embeds the festival in the Palau de la Música to reaffirm a politically engaged Mediterranean identity.

Overview

  • The edition will open with Manuel Gómez Pereira’s La cena, starring Mario Casas and Alberto San Juan, with Valencian participation through Turanga Films.
  • Two competitive sections debut: Finestra for Valencian works and Xaloc replacing the Informative Section to include non-fiction, with both vying for the €10,000 Premi del Públic Ciutat de València and a new Premio Dama for writing and direction.
  • La Cabina returns within the Mostra to spotlight mediometrajes, initially focused on Valencian productions, with €5,000 for production and €5,000 for distribution, and the festival will close with Gala Hernández López’s 10k.
  • The festival widens its footprint with screenings at ABC Park, the industry forum at Veles e Vents, and the Visuals program at La Mutant, complementing Babel, the Filmoteca and the Palau de la Música.
  • The 2025 lineup will feature films that address the “genocide in Palestine” without a dedicated Gaza section, with programming guided by human-rights criteria on entries including Israeli productions.
