Most of Russia Remains Unseasonably Mild as True Winter Grips Only the Northeast

Warmth holds through week’s end across most regions, with deep freezes expected in the northeast around November 22–23.

  • Hydrometcenter’s Roman Vilyfand says a winter regime has not set in for the vast majority of regions, with temperatures running above normal through the end of the week.
  • Southern Siberia is forecast 6–10°C above average, and the southern Far East including southern Yakutia, Amur and southern Khabarovsk is about 5–6°C above norms.
  • In the northeast, forecasters expect severe cold: Yakutia down to −41…−43°C on November 22–23, Kamchatka at −33…−37°C during the workweek, and Chukotka near −36…−41°C through Friday.
  • Northern Krasnoyarsk Krai will turn sharply colder Saturday through Monday to near −30°C after a brief warm spell, while Crimea and Krasnodar hold unusually mild at 19–23°C by day and 11–13°C at night, with Sochi up to 21–24°C by day.
  • Moscow and Central Russia stay dry and near 0 to +3°C under an anticyclonic ridge, with Thursday similar, then a late‑week deterioration and snow cover beginning to rebuild from Sunday and especially Monday.
