Overview

  • Seventy-five percent of new-vehicle shoppers say they are not confident Canada will reach its 2035 zero-emission sales mandate.
  • Just 28% of respondents are likely to consider an electric vehicle for their next purchase, down from 29% a year ago and well below the 59% interest rate in the United States.
  • The January suspension of federal rebates of up to $5,000 has deterred 42% of those who were previously inclined to buy an EV.
  • Driving range concerns, high upfront costs and limited charging infrastructure remain the top barriers to wider EV adoption.
  • Tesla slipped from the second to the eighth most-considered EV brand in Canada as Hyundai, Kia and Toyota now top shopper preferences.
