Most Americans Say Grocery Prices Are Their Biggest Stress Point

Analysts warn that planned tariffs could push food costs up by another 3%.

  • Consumer Price Index data show food prices climbed 3% year-over-year, including a 2.4% rise in groceries and a 3.8% increase in dining-out costs
  • From June 2024 to June 2025 every grocery category tracked by the Bureau of Labor Statistics saw price hikes, led by a 27.3% surge in egg prices
  • About 30% of adults say they have used buy-now-pay-later services such as Afterpay or Klarna to cover essentials including groceries
