Mossos’ 16-Hour Sweep Nets 70 Arrests in 10th ‘Plan Kanpai’ Across Barcelona Area

Officials say intelligence from the sweep will drive organized-crime cases.

  • Roughly 800 personnel operated across Barcelona, its metropolitan municipalities, the airport and Figueres over 16 hours.
  • The latest tally lists 70 detainees with 577 prior records and 34 people under investigation with 197 priors, plus two stolen vehicles recovered, six e-scooters seized, 74 traffic fines, 122 administrative sanctions for drugs or weapons and 39 citations to establishments.
  • In Barcelona city, police reported 35 arrests and 29 investigations for offenses including theft, robbery, fraud and drug crimes, along with 70 administrative sanctions, 34 traffic violations and 260 fare-evasion tickets in the metro.
  • Actions focused on the metro network, suspected receivers of stolen goods such as phone and jewelry shops, scrapyards and nightlife venues, with coordinated support from local police, National Police, Port Police and private security.
  • Since March, the ten operations have yielded more than 500 arrests across about 25 localities, and authorities plan to use the findings to seek restraining orders and, where applicable, expulsions of repeat offenders.
