Moïse Bombito Suffers Fractured Tibia; Canada Calls Up Kamal Miller

Canada is reshuffling its defense with Kamal Miller replacing the injured centre-back.

Overview

  • OGC Nice confirmed Bombito fractured his left tibia in a 2-2 draw at Monaco, where he was stretchered off after a 50th-minute incident, shown a yellow card, and conceded a penalty that was converted.
  • The setback came days after his return to club action on Sept. 28 following a four-month layoff for wrist surgery and a tibia stress fracture.
  • Bombito has been withdrawn from Canada’s October window, which features friendlies against Australia in Montreal on Friday and Colombia on Oct. 14 in Harrison, N.J.
  • Portland Timbers defender Kamal Miller has been called into the squad as his replacement and is one appearance shy of 50 caps for Canada.
  • Coach Jesse Marsch and teammates say Bombito remains upbeat, with Marsch citing Tajon Buchanan’s four-month leg-break recovery as a hopeful benchmark and flagging Luc de Fougerolles as immediate cover in central defense.
