Moscow Forecast: Icy Morning, Thaw by Evening as Warm Front Moves In

Forecasters attribute the rapid shift to active cyclones, with a brief surge to about 10°C in Moscow on Tuesday.

Overview

  • Phobos specialist Mikhail Leus says light snow will turn to wet snow with pockets of freezing rain in northern and western districts this morning, creating localized glaze and slippery roads.
  • Temperatures will climb through the day to +3 to +5°C in the city (+1 to +6°C across the region) with southerly winds at 5–10 m/s and falling pressure to about 739 mmHg.
  • Russia’s Hydromet Center expects today’s precipitation to taper off in Moscow by 18:00 MSK, resume overnight as rain, and give way to a windy, one-day warm spell on Tuesday.
  • The agency forecasts up to about +10°C in Moscow on Tuesday before temperatures drop again by evening as rain in places shifts back to wet snow, reflecting fast-changing conditions under cyclonic activity.
  • Beyond the capital, Saint Petersburg is set for 2–5 cm of snow on 18 November, the Volga regions face mixed precipitation with ice hazards despite above-normal temperatures, and Zabaykalsky Krai reported up to triple the monthly precipitation over the weekend with round-the-clock cleanup.
