Moscow Could Set Heat Record Monday Before Rapid Cooldown Later This Week

Forecasters link the sharp weather swing to cyclone Bernward pulling in colder polar air over Central Russia.

Overview

  • Sunday brings cloudy intervals without rain in Moscow with highs around 19–22°C and a light southwesterly breeze.
  • Monday is expected to peak at 24–27°C, roughly 10°C above normal and even 2–3°C warmer than the long-term July average.
  • A record for September 22 could be matched or exceeded, surpassing the 26.1°C mark set in 2018, according to Phobos specialist Evgeny Tishkovets.
  • From Tuesday the cyclone’s cold front should bring rain, a wind shift to northwesterly directions, and a drop to about 14–17°C, with Wednesday near 10–13°C and evenings 6–9°C.
  • By Thursday daytime readings are forecast at 7–10°C, and next weekend could see a temporary snow cover in Komi, the Nenets district, the Polar Urals and west of Yugra, with a chance of mixed precipitation in parts of the Volga and Central regions, including a low-probability chance for brief wet snow near Moscow.
