Overview
- Snowfall, locally heavy with blowing snow, is forecast to begin in Moscow around 18:00 MSK on December 25 after winds strengthen from midday with gusts up to 12–15 m/s.
- Air temperatures during the December 25 event in the capital are expected to hover between minus 3 and minus 1 degrees Celsius, according to the Hydrometcenter.
- Yellow-level weather alerts take effect from 20:00 MSK in the Moscow region and from 21:00 MSK in the city, remaining in place until 21:00 MSK on December 26.
- On December 26, the passing cyclone is forecast to bring widespread snow or mixed precipitation across Central Russia, with localized heavy snow, blizzards, icing and wind gusts of 15–17 m/s.
- Regional forecasters expect severe cold in parts of the Urals, with temperatures falling to as low as minus 42 degrees Celsius, while a separate outlook projects New Year’s night in Moscow at minus 10 to minus 13 with a 10–15 cm snow cover.
