Overview
- The ministry has amended the National Highways Fee Rules and notified the concessional annual local FASTag pass scheme, which takes effect on November 1, 2026.
- The pass is priced at Rs 1,500 per year for toll plazas outside municipal or local town limits and Rs 3,000 per year for plazas within those limits.
- Only private, non-commercial vehicles with a valid and functional FASTag whose registered address is within 20 km of a specific toll plaza are eligible and the pass is non-transferable and valid only at the designated plaza.
- The pass will not be issued for highways or expressways under a closed user fee system or where a service road or alternate route is available, and digital issuance and eligibility checks will be done through platforms such as Rajmargyatra as barrier-less tolling expands.
- The new annual option offers sizable savings versus monthly passes for frequent users, the government will review rates every April 1, and MoRTH has said it will compensate concessionaires for any revenue shortfalls under existing mechanisms.
