MoRTH Doubles Registration Renewal Fees for 20-Year-Old Vehicles

The ministry says higher charges will push heavily polluting, pre‑BS‑II vehicles out of use.

Overview

  • MoRTH’s revised fee schedule is now in effect for vehicles that are 20 years or older, covering two-, three- and four-wheelers as well as commercial categories.
  • Renewing a made-in-India car’s registration now costs Rs 10,000, up from Rs 5,000, and domestic two-wheelers rise to Rs 2,000 from Rs 1,000.
  • Imported vehicles see sharper increases, with cars and other four-wheelers at Rs 80,000 and imported two-/three-wheelers at Rs 20,000.
  • Three-wheelers now cost Rs 5,000 to renew, and other vehicles, including commercial models, are Rs 12,000, both roughly double previous charges.
  • Vehicles aged 15–20 years are unaffected by the change, which targets only 20-plus models to curb emissions from older fleets.
