Morrisons to Deploy AI Vision System at 200 Self-Checkout Lanes

The retailer says the technology will speed transactions by checking scanned items against the basket in real time.

Overview

  • Morrisons, which announced the move on Thursday, August 6, 2026, has begun a first-phase rollout of Everseen’s Evercheck across 200 UK stores.
  • Evercheck uses real-time computer vision to compare items that have been scanned with the visible contents of a shopper’s basket and shows a brief on-screen prompt if it detects a likely missed or mis-scanned item.
  • The software will be added to existing self-checkout tills rather than replacing those tills, and Morrisons says the change should cut interruptions, shorten queues, and reduce routine colleague call‑outs.
  • Everseen and Morrisons say the system does not use facial recognition and is focused on analysing the transaction not identifying or profiling individual shoppers, but the supermarket has not published which stores will get the upgrade or a completion timetable.
  • Everseen points to deployments across thousands of global checkouts and the 200-store phase could cover roughly two-fifths of Morrisons’ larger-store estate, with real-world effects on shrinkage and staff roles to be judged after measured results arrive.
