Morrisons Confirms 103 UK Closures as Restructuring Targets Cafés, Market Kitchens and More

Morrisons says the shake-up will refocus spending on services customers value.

Overview

  • The supermarket’s 2025 programme covers around 50 café closures, all 18 Market Kitchens, 13 florists, four pharmacies and 17 Morrisons Daily stores.
  • Most Daily convenience stores have already shut, with 16 closing on April 16 and one additional closure on May 14.
  • Further closures are scheduled with exact dates to be confirmed, and 35 meat counters and 35 fish counters are also expected to close.
  • Chief executive Rami Baitiéh frames the changes as necessary to modernise uneconomic parts of the business and says some spaces may be reallocated to third‑party specialists.
  • The company links the streamlining to broader efforts to accelerate growth and manage cost pressures following recent losses and a return to profit in the year to October 2024.
