Overview
- Investigators seized 54 pounds of suspected fentanyl, 70 pounds of methamphetamine, 23 pounds of marijuana, 15 firearms and three brick presses, with the fentanyl valued at about $825,000 and described as potentially lethal to more than 12 million people.
- The Sept. 10 seizure was a multi-agency effort involving the West Virginia State Police, the Southern Regional Drug and Violent Crime Task Force and the Appalachia High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program.
- Over an 11-day span, West Virginia State Police working with ICE arrested 37 people on allegations of being in the U.S. illegally, including 27 during West Virginia Turnpike traffic stops and 10 at DUI checkpoints.
- An executive order issued earlier this year directs state agencies to work with ICE, and the Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation reports processing more than 1,000 immigration detainees since January, including 355 since Aug. 12.
- ICE acting field office director David C. O’Neill praised the partnership, calling West Virginia law enforcement exceptional in identifying and processing people in local custody who face removal.
