Morelos Security Chief Says Burglary Was at House Next to Noroña’s, Not His

Prosecutors say they are still waiting for a formal complaint on the incident.

Overview

  • Gerardo Fernández Noroña reported in the early hours of September 24 that intruders entered the Tepoztlán property, called the episode “grave y extrañísimo,” and said his partner Emma Ocampo is safe.
  • Hours later, Morelos Security Secretary Miguel Ángel Urrutia said the theft occurred at the adjacent house on the same predio, with the complainant reporting disarray and at least seven jackets stolen.
  • Noroña published a photo of license plates he said were seen near the site and claimed the number does not appear in the national vehicle registry (REPUVE).
  • The Morelos state prosecutor’s office (FGE) indicated it is awaiting a formal denuncia and that, as reported, the senator had not yet gone to the Ministerio Público.
  • The property remains contentious as local authorities say it lacks cadastral registration and does not pay predial taxes, and comuneros contend the land is protected communal territory not subject to private sale.
