Overview
- The Fiscalía General del Estado of Morelos handed over José David “N”, identified as a suspected member of Pueblos Unidos, so three regional Fiscalía collaborators held by the group were released.
- The capture that led to the detention occurred during a FIDAI and state security operation and, following the arrest on Monday, violent reprisals included road blockades, gunfire and burning of police vehicles.
- One Fiscalía worker was shot and hospitalized in stable condition and a separate security deployment on the La Pera–Cuautla highway ended in a vehicle accident that left four police officers dead.
- President Claudia Sheinbaum and Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch defended the decision as necessary to save lives and said authorities will mount a new, specially planned operation to re-arrest the suspect.
- Pueblos Unidos is blamed locally for extortion, vehicle theft and drug sales, and officials say the episode exposes gaps in operational readiness and will prompt investigations and accountability measures.
