Morelia to Host 2025 oriGIn Biennial on Geographical Indications Oct. 8–10

Officials cast the meeting as a lever for fair trade–driven regional development under Plan México.

Overview

  • Organizers expect about 600 attendees and 80 exhibitors for the Expo IGs, with participants and panelists from 16 countries.
  • The exhibitor roster includes 31 producers from Michoacán, 35 from other Mexican states, and 11 international producers from countries such as Argentina, Italy, Ireland and Colombia.
  • Four expert panels will feature case studies of prominent protected-origin products including Tequila, Irish Whiskey, Café Colombia and Parmigiano Reggiano.
  • Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla thanked the IMPI and the Consejo Regulador del Tequila for backing Morelia’s successful host bid.
  • Michoacán has five new geographical indications in process at the IMPI: pez blanco de Pátzcuaro, esferas de Tlalpujahua, guayaba, jamaica de La Huacana and molcajetes de San Nicolás Obispo.
