Overview

  • Pilot drilling and foundational works began on July 14 at the Pepsi railroad crossing to launch construction of the Paso Independencia overpass.
  • The 445-meter, four-lane bridge will be the longest in Morelia and is fully funded by the state government at a cost of 350 million pesos.
  • SCOP will reconfigure two key traffic signals and confine the central Periférico lanes to one lane per direction to maintain traffic flow during construction.
  • The underpass will feature public amenities including a skatepark, gym, playgrounds, enhanced lighting and safe pedestrian crossings.
  • The project expands Michoacán’s network of state-built overpasses designed to eliminate daily 20-minute backups for over 4,200 vehicles at urban rail crossings.
