Morelia Begins Construction of Casa del Adulto Mayor in Southern Morelia

Created to foster autonomy through day-long programs, the FAIS-backed center will promote health prevention for the city’s functionally independent seniors.

Overview

  • Mayor Alfonso Martínez Alcázar and DIF municipal president Paola Delgadillo Hernández placed the first stone to launch construction of the Casa del Adulto Mayor.
  • The 2,000+ square meter facility in Jesús del Monte will feature four dedicated blocks housing physical activity zones, workshops, dining areas, and preventive health services.
  • Backed by a 55 million peso FAIS grant, the center will serve up to 500 functionally independent seniors per day and directly impact more than 25,000 residents within a five-kilometer radius.
  • The project marks a shift from institutional care to an active-aging model that emphasizes autonomy, social engagement and preventive health.
  • Officials expect construction to finish and welcome users in the first quarter of 2026.
