More Than 140 Detained in San Antonio Raid Linked to Tren de Aragua and New Homeland Security Task Force

Officials have not detailed charges or how many detainees are tied to the gang.

Overview

  • Federal agents executed a court-authorized operation around 2–3 a.m. on Nov. 16 at San Pedro Avenue and Basse Road, detaining more than 140 people.
  • FBI San Antonio and Homeland Security Investigations said the detainees, from Venezuela, Honduras, Mexico and other South American countries, were transferred to ICE custody.
  • Authorities framed the raid as an early action of the newly created Homeland Security Task Force–South Texas established under Executive Order 14159.
  • Officials said the operation disrupted Tren de Aragua’s criminal presence and credited a Texas Department of Public Safety investigation that led to a state search warrant.
  • Local video captured smoke, loud bangs, handcuffs and towed vehicles, and more than 100 residents protested the next day, demanding transparency on detainee status and potential charges.
