Montserrat Records Third Minor Quake in 24 Hours

Local officials report no damage or emergency calls following the low-magnitude tremors.

  • The most recent event was a magnitude 1.8 quake at 14:42 on August 28 with a focal depth of 9 kilometers, according to the national seismic service.
  • An earlier tremor at 04:04 measured magnitude 2.5 at 5 kilometers deep near Colònia Lloma Vaquera and the PicassentAlborache road, and it was felt at intensity II–III in several local areas.
  • A second quake at 07:57 registered magnitude 1.9 between the town and the Cumbres de Calicanto urbanization with an epicenter about 9 kilometers deep.
  • The mayor said the town will not adopt preventive measures, noted there were no emergency calls, and confirmed no activation of special protocols.
  • Over the past eight months, La Ribera has recorded 21 small seismic events, chiefly in Sumacàrcer and Antella, all reported without damage.
