Montreal’s Le Miaousée Debuts Pop-Up, Aiming To Become Canada’s First Permanent Cat Museum

A soft-launch inside a former presbytery is building momentum for crowdfunding toward a permanent adoption-friendly venue next year.

Overview

  • The Miaoutréal pop-up runs Sept. 12–28 in the De Castelnau presbytery in Villeray and intentionally has no live cats at this stage.
  • Displays include historic photos dating to the 1860s, a book corner, local art, rescue information and a crafts area, with workshops and a boutique on site.
  • Le Miaousée bills itself as the first cat museum in Montreal and Canada under founder and executive director Aqeela Nahani.
  • Nahani is seeking to crowdfund a permanent space by next year, ideally remaining in the presbytery with plans for permanent exhibits and an adoption lounge.
  • Early response is strong, with ticket sales prompting consideration of added hours and inquiries arriving from Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom.
