Overview

• SPVM officers apprehended Germa at about 7:45 a.m. on July 25 in downtown Montreal after identifying him as a suspect in local bank robberies.
• He is accused of robbing a Ville-Marie bank on July 19 for C$400 and returning on July 22 to steal C$500, including marked bills.
• The escape prompted a coordinated manhunt by Correctional Service Canada, Sûreté du Québec and the Ontario Provincial Police across Quebec and Ontario.
• The incident revealed security weaknesses in Archambault Institution’s minimum-security unit, which had experienced another inmate escape in June.
