Crews are consolidating containment lines on the northeast perimeter with evacuation orders still in place

Overview

  • The Monte Fire has charred 1,049 acres of steep, rocky terrain since igniting Tuesday afternoon off the 15000 block of El Monte Road in Lakeside.
  • Cal Fire reports the blaze is burning at a slow rate of spread and crews plan to remain in remote drop zones for at least three more days to reinforce lines.
  • Containment climbed to 35% by Friday morning as teams constructed firebreaks along the northeast, south and west flanks of the blaze.
  • More than 720 personnel—including engines, hand crews and helicopters—are assigned to overcome access challenges in rugged terrain.
  • Three firefighters have been treated for minor injuries and smoke has prompted unhealthy air advisories for Alpine, Blossom Valley, Ramona and San Diego Country Estates.
