Overview
- The Secretaría del Trabajo y Previsión Social said Sept. 30 that the strike concluded after the union and the institution accepted a Ministry-issued dictamen that both parties signed at the STPS headquarters.
- The dictamen requires Nacional Monte de Piedad to pay 100% of salarios caídos, regularize plazas and meet other labor obligations that had been at the center of the year-long dispute.
- Nacional Monte de Piedad will reopen about 302 closed branches on Wednesday, Oct. 7, with a timed schedule and an online appointment system to manage heavy customer demand.
- To help customers who could not access in-person service, the institution will grant 45 days without interest starting Oct. 7 and apply interest discounts based on each customer’s history; pledged items have been kept in institutional custody and commercialisation dates were extended.
- Legal and financial questions remain because the Supreme Court is reviewing an earlier amparo that declared the strike nonexistent and the company has not yet disclosed the total cost of the labor commitments, which will affect its operational recovery.
