Montana Governor Purchases Historic Mansion, Plans to Donate to State

The multimillionaire governor and his wife will use the mansion as their primary residence, with plans to donate it to the state after his tenure.

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte and first lady Susan Gianforte have purchased a historic mansion in Helena for $4 million.
The mansion, known as the Hauser House, was built in 1885 and is on the National Register of Historic Homes.
The Gianfortes plan to donate the mansion to the state for use as the governor's mansion after Gianforte's tenure.
The current governor's mansion has been closed for renovations since 2021, with work put on hold due to supply chain delays and a worker shortage.
The Department of Administration will decide whether to accept the donated mansion and what to do with the current governor's mansion.
