Overview

  • The collapse occurred around 12:45 pm on Aug. 17 at a construction site on San Carlos al 1070 when the personnel hoist plunged from the ninth floor.
  • Firefighters, SIES and police secured the scene and confirmed four fatalities, with the fifth worker transported to Hospital Eva Perón de Granadero Baigorría in critical condition.
  • Initial reports indicate the hoist’s capacity was four but it carried five operatives from Villa Ocampo, and investigators are examining a snapped cable as a possible cause.
  • The provincial Ministry of Labor updated its tally to at least 16 workplace deaths in Santa Fe so far this year, including six in construction accidents involving elevator shafts or montacargas failures.
  • Families, unions and authorities await judicial peritajes and technical inspections to assess equipment failure, potential negligence and compliance with safety protocols.
