Monsoon Retreat Underway in Maharashtra as Pune Set to Turn Dry by October 10–11

IMD says the retreat has resumed, with recent showers reflecting local convection rather than an active system.

Overview

  • IMD Pune reports withdrawal is in progress over north and central Maharashtra, including Pune, with isolated rain possible for the next 24–48 hours.
  • Clearer skies are expected from Saturday, with forecasts pointing to largely dry conditions from October 10–11 and daytime highs near 30–35°C and cooler nights of 16–22°C.
  • Pune saw highly variable rain on October 8, including 34.4 mm at Pashan, 20.4 mm at Lohegaon, about 12 mm at Shivajinagar, and roughly 3–3.5 mm at Chinchwad.
  • S D Sanap of IMD Pune says there is no active weather system over the state and that pocketed rain is typical of the withdrawal phase.
  • Earlier delays tied to a Bay of Bengal low and Cyclone Shakti are easing, and the IMD has issued no significant alerts for Pune beyond advising for light, brief showers.
