Overview
- The India Meteorological Department upgraded district warnings to red for parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region for the weekend of July 4–5 and kept orange alerts in place into early next week.
- Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation data show repeated very high 24‑hour totals across the city, with several stations reporting more than 100 mm and some locations above 200 mm, producing widespread waterlogging.
- Heavy rain has disrupted road and suburban rail services, caused subway and arterial flooding, and led to multiple rain‑related fatalities and electrocutions, with at least four deaths reported in the Mumbai region.
- Local and state agencies — including the BMC, the State Emergency Operations Centre and disaster response teams — have mobilised rescue and relief crews, suspended some services and ordered inquiries into infrastructure failures such as open manholes.
- The monsoon has progressed into northern and central India, including Uttarakhand and a late onset in Delhi, and the IMD warns the very active pattern is driven by an offshore trough, shear zone and a low in the northeast Bay of Bengal that will keep heavy rain across 20+ states through about July 8.
