Monsoon Rains Push Mumbai Reservoirs to 46.9% Capacity

  • Bhatsa Reservoir holds the largest share at 2.77 lakh million litres, followed by Upper Vaitarna with 1.42 lakh million litres and Middle Vaitarna with 1.04 lakh million litres.
  • The four primary reservoirs—Upper Vaitarna, Modak Sagar, Tansa and Middle Vaitarna—have collectively surpassed 50% of their combined capacity.
  • Catchment areas recorded heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, including 107 mm at Middle Vaitarna and 72 mm at Modak Sagar, boosting reservoir levels.
  • Mumbai has received 521 mm of rainfall at the Bhandup Complex this monsoon, significantly narrowing the gap toward its 14.47 lakh million litre annual water requirement.
